Mock Parliament 2017

Mock Parliament 2017

“If you can speak, you can influence. If you can influence, you can change lives.”

In the fast-paced world of today, it is quite a blessing to be articulate and quick-witted when it comes to public speaking- and these very virtues are essentially required to perform well when it comes to Model United Nations Conferences and Mock Parliaments.

On the 2nd of August, 2017, a Mock Parliament was organized by our esteemed Social Science department in the school assembly hall as an ISA activity. 20 bright students belonging to classes 9 to 11 from the school’s MUN team participated in the same while their batch mates made a lovely audience for the event. The students represented esteemed politicians and leaders of our nation, deliberating on the agenda- “Commercial Utilization Of Nuclear Power.”

Our speakers for the day were Sumitra Mahajan and President Ramnath Kovind. The debate was marked by witty speeches, verbal fights, rhetoric and an extremely enthusiastic audience.

A clash between Mallikarjun Kharge and PM Modi seemed to be the highlight of the event. It clearly mirrored the pros and cons of democracy that we, as citizens of a democratic nation, experience on a daily basis.

The event ended with a heated challenge between Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi in the opposition and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and CM Yoginath from the ruling party. The entire debate was videographed and shall now soon be sent to Bhutan as part of our affiliation with the British Council.
